Saturn Cafe Seeking Line Cooks, Bus Host, and Counter

The Saturn Cafe, located in the heart of downtown Santa Cruz, is looking for dynamic additions to our team! We feature classic American diner food, made with love, and completely Vegetarian!

LINE COOK:

The ideal candidate is someone who:

Hours: 21 – 30 hours/week

Wage: $13.00-$15.00/hour

Primary Responsibilities:
• Food prep
• Cooking
• Clean-up

Prerequisites/Prior Experience:
• Line experience
• Prep experience
• Soup / sauce experience
• Breakfast food experience
• Valid CA Food handler card required
• Basic English required, fully bilingual English/Spanish a plus

* Vegetarian and vegan food experience a plus*

 

BUS HOST

Hours: 20 hours/week
Wage: $10.50/hour

Position Summary:
The Bus Host Position is the entry level Front-of-House position at the Saturn.

Primary Responsibilities:
Enthusiastically greet customers & escort customers to their seats
Assist servers in attending to customer needs
Bussing/cleaning tables
Maintains cleanliness of and restock the front-of-the-house area.
The Bus Host must maintain an exemplary level of customer service at all times and must be a team player. Multi-tasking, efficiency, and excellent communication are key qualities of a good Bus Host.

Specific Tasks:
Greet and seat customers.
Provide Menus and water to customers; refill water as needed
Inform customers who their server will be
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the FOH
Restock dining room workstations and prepare beverages for service.
Maintain proper food handling, safety and sanitation standards.
Clean and reset tables
Clear dishes
Spray table with sanitizer and wipe down
Ensure that condiments are full and clean
Set table with two place settings
Assist Dish Washers with the return of dirty dishes, glasses and utensils to the dishwashing area
Assist wait staff with beverages and expediting food to customers 10. Complete all other duties as assigned.

Prerequisites/Prior Experience:
Knowledge of the sequence of service and dining room procedures, generally involving a minimum of one (1) year as a bus person, counter person or barista with excellent customer service experience.

 

 

COUNTER

Hours:
15 – 20 hours/week
Wage: $10.50/hour

Position Summary:
The Counter Position is the second level of training at the Saturn. Once an employee has showed proficiency in the Bus/Host Position they may be trained on counter.

Primary Responsibilities:
Provide quick and efficient service to customers sitting at the counter area
Placing take-out orders in person or on the phone
Prepare desserts for the restaurant
Assist servers in attending to general customer needs
The Counter Server must maintain an exemplary level of customer service at all times and must be a team player. Multi-tasking, efficiency, and excellent communication are key qualities of a good Bus Host.

Specific Tasks:
Take food and beverage orders and enter into POS
Stock the Counter area during and at the end of shift
Keep counter and floor clean at all times
Greet customers courteously
Serve hot and cold drinks
Pick up food from serving window and check for accuracy before expediting
Collect payment and make change
Prepare desserts for wait staff and serve them to guests at tables
Maintain portion control and consistency in aesthetics in dessert preparation
Maintain proper food handling, safety and sanitation standards. 11. Keep display equipment
Complete all other duties as assigned.

Prerequisites/Prior Experience:
Knowledge of the sequence of service and dining room procedures, generally involving a minimum of one (1) year as a bus person, counter person or barista with excellent customer service experience.

Physical Requirements for all positions:
Must be able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for extended periods of time. Must have good sense of balance, be able to bend and kneel and have the ability to lift bus pans and trays frequently up to 40 pounds. Must be able to speak clearly and listen attentively to customer and other employees.

Working Conditions for all positions:
High noise levels, hot, must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
